any arabic speakers?

my name is azize. arabic's my first language but i live in america. arabic is heavily gendered and i've been experimenting with a new pronoun i thought of, similar to  he'eh and ho'wa: 7e'a. i don't know about verb conjugation though, maybe replace gender binary conjugations with "e7" "7" or "a7"? thoughts?

Greetings friends.

Wintertime is maybe not the best time for starts or revivals, but I still think this community is important and I want to get to know all of you.

How are you today? How is your winter season coming along? (Or maybe you're in another hemisphere and are having a whole other season right now. How's that going?) Tell me a story while I think of something else to post here.

(no subject)

A lot of people seem to prefer/enjoy using English, which makes sense since it’s a lot less gendered than some other languages!

I’ve been wondering, though, has anyone made any attempt to modify their own languages in some way to make them fit better? I personally am really interested in this because I’ve been living in English-speaking countries for half my life so I have a lot of issues with not speaking my first language as well as I like and wanting to use it more.

So I’ve been thinking of what I could do; make up a new pronoun and endings to go with it? Mash the existing German ones together somehow? Maybe I could somehow borrow and adapt the English ‘they’ or the gender-neutral Swedish pronoun.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? How did it go?

Introductions!

This seems like a good way to start off the comm. I'll go first:

My name is Hauke, I'm your resident mod here! I'm 25, an SFF nerd, and currently living at home with my parents while working and studying part time because of mental health problems.

In English I like to go by ey/em/eir pronouns, but my first language is German and so far I’m pretty lost when it comes to how to make it work for me gender-wise. Luckily for me I live in England at the moment and speak English to a lot of my closest friends, but I really want to go back sometime, and also come out to my family, who I speak German to, but so far I’m not sure how to go about it.

I started this comm because when I went looking for answers, all I could find was English language communities and help pages. We might not have the answers for each other, but I think we can be a helpful community of people with similar experiences, nonetheless!

Please feel free to introduce yourselves and generally chat below! And make posts about whatever you would like to talk about.

Welcome, all!

Welcome

Non English Non Binary Logo

Welcome to NENB!

What's this?
NonEnglish NonBinary is a comm for non-binary trans* people who speak languages other than English as their first or primary language! There’s a lot of pronoun choices and discussions of non-binary language in the English-speaking internet sphere, but it can be difficult to find even the most basic information in other languages. This is a place for people who face those kind of problems to hang out, talk, swap advice and stories and support each other.

Who’s it for?
Non-binary, genderqueer, agender, and gender???????? people who have to navigate languages other than English! Wherever you live & whatever your first language is, come in and introduce yourself!

Who isn't it for?
Binary people, cis or trans, and nb people who speak English as their first & everyday language: you guys can still hang out and read what we’re talking about, but remember this isn’t primarily your space and don’t talk over anyone.

Who runs this place?
The creator and currently sole mod of this comm is [profile] bienenwolf! You can contact me here on DW or via email at avacumallo @ gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns!

What’re the rules?
Posting is open to all members, but keep these in mind:

  1. The main language of this comm in English, for ease of understanding, but you can post/comment in any language if there’s someone to talk in it with.

  2. No language policing. Anyone can post here, we don't care how good or polished your English is.

  3. Be kind to each other! Disagree about things, but don’t start wank.

  4. Make use of DW’s inbuilt age restriction settings if needed. This should be as safe a space as possible for anyone.

  5. No appropriative shit - I don’t want to see any “trans-ethnic” or appropriating other culture’s gender concepts here.

  6. No other bigotry either; no racism, (trans)misogyny, ableism, etc.. I hope everyone here will be posting in good faith, but fuckups and misunderstandings happen. Do your best to handle it gracefully if you're at fault, however accidental.

  7. If your post contains potentially triggering or upsetting content you must put a warning in the title or in bold before the main body of the post! If members have triggers that are uncommon please contact me and I’ll put up a list of things to warn for.

If you have any questions or suggestions for further rules, feel free to comment on this post! Comments are screened so I can contact you privately if you prefer.
